Navigo’s community teams have been highly praised in the Care Quality Commission’s 2023 Community Mental Health Survey, having performed ‘significantly above the trust average’.

The CQC report, which has been released today, focuses on the experiences of over 14,770 people who used NHS mental health services between 1 April 2023 and 31 May 2023.

Service users were asked how their care and treatment was organised, planned and reviewed. Other factors considered included the standard of crisis care, the support and wellbeing provided and people’s overall evaluation of the care they received.

Navigo has been identified as performing ‘better than expected’, with the proportion of respondents answering positively to questions about their care significantly above the national NHS trust average.

Mike Reeve, Navigo’s Deputy Chief Executive, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to see the results of the latest Community Mental Health Survey.

“The most important thing to us as an organisation is ensuring high quality care for our service users. These excellent results are testament to the incredible dedication, expertise and empathy that our outstanding staff show on a daily basis.”

The praise follows the transformation of community services across North East Lincolnshire, which has seen teams integrated with Primary Care Networks (PCNs).

This integration has brought together GP practices, social care providers and the voluntary sector, as well as local mental health services, to allow service users with serious mental health problems – such as psychosis, bipolar disorder and eating disorders – to be better supported within their local community.

Andy Laughton, Navigo’s Assistant Director for Community Mental Health Services, said: “The transformation of community services has enabled us to work closer with primary care teams to better provide holistic support where many people are most comfortable – within their own communities.

“Knowing what we are doing well and where we need to improve is essential to developing a quality service, so I’d like to thank all service users for their feedback – as well as staff who have risen to all challenges and are providing the best possible care.”

The report marks the fifth consecutive year of Navigo community services being rated highly by the independent regulator of health and social care in England, having been applauded in both the 2021 and 2022 surveys.
