Navigo’s Pelham Lodge and Meridian Lodge have been given the gold star of approval after receiving Quality Network for Inpatient Working Age Mental Health Services Accreditation (QNWA) from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

The accreditation process – which spanned over two years – involved rigorous assessment of Navigo’s inpatient units, which are based at Harrison House on Peaks Lane in Grimsby.

Both lodges were reviewed with a wide variety of standards in mind – including Patient and Carer Experience, Staffing and Training, and Environment and Facilities.

Keri Rennison, Navigo’s Assistant Director of Acute Mental Health Services, said: “The Royal College of Psychiatrists decision reflects the commitment, resilience and adaptability of our inpatient teams in implementing policy and process changes to meet the highest standard of accreditation requirements.

“I’m extremely proud of the dedication and passion our hardworking staff have shown as they continue to provide services that we would be happy for our own families to use.”

The QNWA publishes a set of specialised standards which can be used as a framework to assess the quality of care provided within mental health inpatient wards across the country. It ensures service users, carers and staff can be confident of the high standards of care provided.

The report praised the environment across the two lodges, with a ‘well-maintained and spacious garden’ and a large dining room that was ‘a great space for socialising for both patients and staff’.

The review team also applauded the development of an in-house method for de-escalation, known as Respect, and the liaison with other Navigo services such as the perinatal team.

Staff were reported to feel supported by management, felt safe to speak up about any issues they had and were ‘very confident’ in the training they were provided with, answering most of the review team’s questions in detail.

Mike Reeve, Deputy Chief Executive of Navigo, said: “This accreditation is brilliant news and reinforces Navigo’s position as the leading provider of mental health services in North East Lincolnshire.

“We are proud to offer therapeutic environments that allow individuals not only to recover, but to thrive. Our inpatient lodges at Harrison House are great examples of that.”

As well as accreditation, Meridian Lodge also received a Sustainable Mental Health Commendation in recognition of their work towards providing a sustainable mental health service – having met 92% of the College Centre for Quality Improvement (CCQI) Sustainability Principles.

Pelham Lodge and Meridian Lodge are each home to 11 en-suite rooms for adult service users whose current level of need requires them to be admitted to acute mental health services.

The lodges run 24 hours a day, providing service users with round-the-clock access to nursing, medical and psychological support, as well as social care and occupational therapy.
