A new project focused on improving career prospects and providing pathways into health and social care employment has launched in North East Lincolnshire.
Navigating into Health and Social Care is a free eight-week programme that offers training, careers advice and work experience opportunities to adults looking to explore work in health and social care.
Practical support in wellbeing, finance, digital skills and confidence will also be provided along with a variety of wellbeing activities.
Navigo’s Project Lead Ross Albery said: “We’ve developed the programme to help support local people in exploring job opportunities in health and social care – an area they might not necessarily have considered when learning or job searching.
“There is a large skills gap in North East Lincolnshire compared to the national average and as a key local employer we want to help bridge that gap, while offering opportunities to as many people as possible.”
The eight-week programme is designed for unemployed adults not currently in education and training, or anyone who is employed but is wanting to upskill into the health and social care sector. It aims to enhance an individual's skills through work experience, personal development, digital awareness and wellbeing support.
Cohort sizes will be kept small for a dynamic group experience — with the course exceeding 20 hours per week, but being bespoke to the individual.
Navigating into Health and Social Care has been awarded funding through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). A total of £55,923 of the money given to North East Lincolnshire Council to allocate to local projects that focus on three priorities for the borough (Communities and Place, Supporting Business and People and Skills) has been awarded to Navigo.
The service is just one of several employability support services offered by Navigo, including Tukes, Individual Placement and Support and NHS Talking Therapies' employment advice service.
