Navigo’s Early Intervention in Psychosis team has been praised as ‘Top Performing’ in the latest National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP).
The results, taken from a sample of 31 service users who had experienced their first episode of psychosis, show Navigo as performing exceptionally in all three standards of the NCAP — Timely Access, Effective Treatment and Recording Outcome Measures.
The Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service provide specialist personal care to young people who are at risk of, or experiencing, their first episode of psychosis.
Charlotte Moughton, Navigo’s Senior Operational Manager for Specialist Teams said: “These amazing NCAP results demonstrate the hard work and commitment of our brilliant EIP team – we are very grateful for their dedication to our service users.
“Psychosis shouldn’t stop anyone from living their lives and we’re so pleased that this audit evidences the values we prioritise on a day-to-day basis.”
In 2023-24, 94% of EIP service users sampled started treatment within two weeks of referral, compared to a national average of only 73%.
As well as offering speedy treatment, Navigo also ensured 100% of service users audited had a physical health review and relevant interventions in the previous 12 months.
Every carer of a service user within those sampled had also taken up carer-focused education and support programmes — compared to just 62% of carers across England.
All NHS-funded EIP teams in England were expected to take part in the NCAP, which was set up to improve the quality of care for people with psychosis in England and Wales.
The standards for the audit are based on the Implementing the Early Intervention in Psychosis Access and Waiting Time Standard guidance, which gives an overview of a recommended package of EIP care for treating and managing psychosis.
