A multi-million pound investment in the transformation of older people’s mental health services in North East Lincolnshire is on the way.
Purchase and redevelopment of the former Grange and Manor care home on Second Avenue in Grimsby will allow for the expansion and relocation of existing services to create a modern new complex.
The dedicated facility will offer enhanced nursing and specialist residential care and support to individuals with complex needs including dementia and memory problems, while also providing support to individuals moving on from older peoples’ acute and long-term inpatient units.
The two-phase modernisation will first see the conversion of the three-storey Manor property, creating a new inpatient facility that includes:
- 30 ensuite residential rooms
- Indoor gym
- State-of-the art sensory room
- Communal lounge, cinema and activity rooms
- Podiatry, beautician, hairdresser suites
- Therapy suites
- Overnight facilities for family members
- Training and staff facilities
All surrounded by landscaped gardens and green space.
The second phase will focus on the Grange, with NAViGO currently exploring opportunities with partner agencies while reviewing use of accommodation across all sites.
NAViGO chief operating officer Janine Smith said: “This is a major investment in the continued enhancement of local older people’s mental health services.
“Our service users are often at the most vulnerable stage of their lives. It’s extremely important that they are offered support tailored to their individual needs, in a modern, safe environment that promotes their personal choice, encourages independence, and provide opportunities for meaningful engagement, all with the aim of improving quality of life.
“The expansion of our service within North East Lincolnshire is also important in preventing out-of-area placements for those with complex needs, enabling people to remain within the local community, close to their loved ones.”
The landmark development is another positive step in the continued enhancement of our older people provision which has seen the development of bespoke services and a dedicated suite rated as ‘outstanding’ by the CQC.
As well as a wide range of inpatient services, we also offer community care to older outpatients and their families across North East Lincolnshire providing carers support, dementia engagement and care home liaison.
NAViGO actively engage with service users in the creation of new services. Janine added: “Service users are at the heart of what we do. We actively encourage our service users and their families to be involved in planning their care and recovery plans where possible. But we carry that right through to the development of our services.”
It is hoped the first phase of redevelopment will be completed by autumn 2022.
