Navigo has been rated ‘better than expected’ by the Care Quality Commission following the publication of the 2025 Community Mental Health Survey — one of the largest annual surveys of NHS mental health services in England.

Respondents rated Navigo particularly highly on care, compassion and respect. 94.6% said they felt treated with care and compassion, while 94.9% said they were treated with respect and dignity.

The results mark the seventh consecutive year that Navigo has outperformed national NHS trust averages.

Simon Beeton, Chief Executive at Navigo, said: “Surveys like this give us something no internal data can: an honest account of what it actually feels like to use our services.

“Behind every statistic in this survey is a real person who took the time to tell us about their experiences, which means a lot to us.

“The fact that so many people felt listened to, respected and supported in their care is a direct reflection of our staff, who do an extraordinary job in what can often be challenging circumstances. This feedback reminds us why that work matters.”

The annual survey gathers feedback from people of all ages using NHS mental health services. It identifies areas for improvement in care, such as crisis support and medication information, and evaluates experiences to help trusts improve patient care.

The CQC surveyed over 12,000 people across England who used NHS mental health services between April and May 2025. Trusts are rated ‘better than expected’ where the proportion of people answering positively was significantly above the national average across the full survey. Navigo was among a select group of trusts to receive this rating.

In addition to positive feedback on empathy and kindness, more than four in five service users felt supported in making decisions about their care — an increase of almost 7% on the 2024 results.

Improvements were also recorded in how staff talk to patients about medication, with more people saying they had discussed both the benefits and potential side effects with their care team.

The encouraging results follow the organisation’s inpatient wards for older people —based at The Gardens (at the Diana, Princess of Wales hospital site) and Tees House (on Second Avenue in Grimsby) — being rated as Outstanding by the CQC in February 2026.
