A young woman reached out the Gardiner Hill Foundation while she was living in supported accommodation. We’ll call her Jade to keep her privacy.
Jade was looking forward to moving into her own home in just a week, living independently for the very first time. And she’d be in her new home just in time for the birth of her child!
Being pregnant, Jade prioritised getting supplies for the baby. But she couldn’t afford further essentials like bedding, kitchenware or bathroom supplies.
Moving into a new home can be a stressful time. But Jade had the added pressure of being unable to afford basics to create a home for herself and her baby. She also had little family in the area to support her.
Jade was receiving mental health support from Navigo and the staff supporting her recommended applying for a Gardiner Hill Foundation grant. It was felt that having control and choice over home essentials would promote dignity and independence — and continue her motivation to move forward.
The Gardiner Hill Foundation were pleased to award a grant of £250 to enable Jade to set up her new home. We wish her all the best for the future.
The Gardiner Hill Foundation is Navigo’s chosen charity. It supports people who are receiving support from either Navigo or Nurtrio with grants which promote independence, boost wellbeing or enhance their employment prospects – ultimately improving their mental health.
