What the Gardiner Hill Foundation can support

If you live with mental health problems and you have a keyworker within Navigo or Nurtrio, you could get a grant from The Gardiner Hill Foundation .

You can apply for a grant yourself, or your carer or a member of your family can submit an application on your behalf, but please note that all applications must be supported by a referee within Navigo or Nurtrio services. Gardiner Hill Foundation grants are open to all ages.

You may be eligible if you meet the below criteria:

  • You want to maintain independent living in the community, or take part in education or training
  • You have no other option for funding and you don’t have funds saved that you could use to meet your needs
  • You must demonstrate that the award will have a substantial and immediate effect on improving your circumstances
  • You currently have a keyworker within Navigo or Nurtrio

The board of trustees will consider each application on its own merits but, sadly, we can’t approve every application. If approved, the funds must be used within six months or the grant will expire.

The maximum grant funding available is £250 in any 24 month period.

The trustees are unable to consider applications where a quote for the items required is not provided.

The Gardiner Hill Foundation Trustees meet monthly to consider grant applications. As such the foundation is unable to consider applications that require an urgent response. If a need is urgent, we suggest you seek support from other charities or services within Navigo. Your keyworker will be able to direct you the most appropriate services within Navigo.

When an application for funding is approved, you should be aware that there are processes that must be adhered to release the funds which will add additional time to the award of the funding.

What the Gardiner Hill Foundation can and can’t consider

For a quick overview of what the Gardiner Hill Foundation can and can’t consider, please take a moment to read the sections below. They outline the types of support we may be able to help with — from everyday essentials to employment‑related items.

The Gardiner Hill Foundation does not accept urgent requests and therefore is not able to support with requests for food. If there is a need for food or grocery essentials, we recommend making use of local food banks or seeking support from a Navigo team who can signpost you to services and/or support with applications to options like the Crisis and Resilience Fund.

We can consider requests for essential white goods — such as fridges, cookers and washing machines. To help us make sure funding is used where it’s most needed, please provide evidence that other available support options (including the Crisis and Resilience Fund) have been explored when applying.

The Foundation welcomes requests for items that support wellbeing, recovery and independence. This can include exercise equipment, hobby or activity resources and practical home essentials that help someone feel settled and able to move forward.

The Gardiner Hill Foundation can also consider support that helps people move towards work, learning or greater independence. This may include technology like laptops or tablets needed for job searching or online learning, course fees or training materials that build skills and confidence and travel support such as bikes or passes that help someone access work, training or volunteering. We can also consider practical items needed to prepare for or stay in employment.

By submitting the following form, you consent to sharing your information with trustees of the Gardiner Hill Foundation and other relevant third parties, where applicable, in order to process your application.

If successful, you will be asked to complete a feedback form to help us understand the difference the grant has made.

Please note that we are unable to fund business related expenses or cover outstanding debt.
