Life's special and needs to be fulfilled

Kathryn_Thompson_thumb.jpgWhy would you like to be a community representative?

"I have been under the the mental health team at NAViGO for a number of years now and have many different experiences, some good and some bad.

"I am creative and want to help the community. I already work as a mental health support worker in a mental health hospital and I'm doing my bit, but I would like to help out further as those that aren’t in hospital or getting support need us just as much as anyone else."

Tell us about you and your experience.

"I have had and still have issues with my mental health. I also work with adults under section for mental health and get so much fulfilment in supporting them as I know how hard it can be to suffer with anxiety and mental health.

"If I can give something back after some support I have received, then I’m making a difference. I have also not received the support needed and had to fight to get it but shouldn't have to fight so hard.

"Recovery is a personal battle which is hard enough let alone fighting for support."

If you are elected as a representative, what do you want to achieve?

"Those who suffer with mental health should be able to get support in place where needed. Community activities should be put on to help mindfulness and build a social community where everyone feels safe.

"Also for those who struggle to ask for help and to be able to seek it without shame and knowing they are safe."

How do you intend to engage with the membership to ensure their voices are heard?

  • Attending meetings and putting people's voices across so they are heard
  • Making time for those who ask for and need help and ensuring they are heard and validated
  • Giving ideas of different ways to support and communicate will help those in need or those who are doing well to continue doing well
