Thank you for seeking information about the Adult Neurodiversity (ND) Services in North East Lincolnshire (NEL). If you’re trying to find out how you can get an Autism or ADHD Diagnostic Assessment, you’ve come to the right place.
In response to the national crisis in waiting times to access an Autism and/or ADHD Diagnostic assessment, together with feedback from the neurodivergent community, we have been working on a new ND Pathway as part of a range of solutions being piloted across the Humber and North Yorkshire ICB (Integrated Care Board) area. Locally adults have had up to a six year wait for assessments, with the average being two to four years. Over the past six months, we have been trialling a new approach to service delivery in order to clear our waiting lists and work towards being able to offer people direct access to assessments, so they don’t have to wait to find out if Autism and/or ADHD is the reason for some of the difficulties they are experiencing.
This new approach has included increased partnership working between the three organisations responsible for delivering Adult Neurodiversity Services in NEL – Navigo, Care Plus Group and Faraway – to pool resources in order to increase our capacity to undertake assessments. We’ve also introduced a single point of contact for the Adult Neurodiversity Service so people, or someone on their behalf, can speak directly to a clinician and start their assessment. The aim is to use this system for new referral enquiries, so people don’t have to complete a referral form to seek an Autism and/or ADHD assessment in future. We’re also trying to keep people in a knowing position so that once they’ve been in contact with us and started their assessment, they will always know what’s happening next.
We have been prioritising the people who have been waiting the longest for an assessment and by the end of the year we will have contacted everyone on our waiting lists. We want to be able to offer this new way of accessing a Neurodiversity assessment in NEL to everyone going forwards and will be opening the phone lines to the public in January 2026. This means that if you’re thinking about an Autism and/or ADHD assessment now, you will be able to start this in January. Please check back on Navigo’s website and social media pages for information about how to do this in the New Year.
