Our new supported living accommodation for individuals with mental health needs has opened in Grimsby.
Four fully-furnished flats, individually designed alongside service users and their families, have become home to the first set of residents.
The project has seen the complete renovation of a derelict property in the centre of Grimsby to provide self-contained, single person apartments within a shared complex.
The unique accommodation is provided to individuals with mental health needs who are stepping down from a hospital or residential care setting.
As well as a new home, residents benefit from 24/7 care support, a designated care co-ordinator and ongoing rehabilitation while developing their independent living skills.
Welcoming service users to their new homes, NAViGO team manager Kathryn Small said: “Our supported accommodation complements the valuable work we do within our inpatient and community mental health services.
“We know that there may be times when a person needs extra support in taking that safe step from being in a hospital inpatient facility to living independently within the local community.
“Which is why we are committed to ensuring that this type of enhanced accommodation is available in North East Lincolnshire.
“It also reduces the need for out of area placements and ensures that individuals can live within the local area close to their family and friends.”
Service users have been involved in the personalisation of the properties, choosing colours, selecting furnishings and adding personal touches.
Kathryn added: “To be able to come into somewhere fully furnished, put the kettle on and feel that you are home is much less scary and provides a comfortable setting for service users to develop their daily living skills, gradually increase their independence and integrate back into the community.”
Further expansion of the development will see the construction of a purpose built garden annex offering additional bedsit accommodation and purpose designed staff office.
Since 2016, NAViGO have continually worked to provide local rehabilitation and recovery accommodation and this is our third supported housing scheme.
