It’s a ‘yes’ for NAViGO as the leading mental health services provider is officially recognised by the General Medical Council.
Gaining Approved Sponsor status, we join a list of only ten existing International Psychiatric Sponsorship Schemes in the UK by offering a two-year International Medical Fellowship.
So what does this mean?
Not only a huge achievement to be added to an elite list of 70 organisations who have GMC Approved Sponsoring Body Status, but - put simply - it recognises NAViGO as an approved practice setting qualified to:
- Employ, sponsor and train psychiatrists from outside the UK
- Support doctors to gain a MSc in Clinical Psychiatry
- Train and support middle grade doctors in achieving Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
- Provide regulatory assurance
NAViGO chief executive Jane Lewington said: “By gaining GMC approved sponsoring body status, we join a very select group of trusts within the UK who are able to deliver a psychiatry programme – a huge achievement for a small mental health service provider in North East Lincolnshire.
“We have the programme structure, support and clinical governance arrangements in place to enable the registration of overseas doctors and to support them through their postgraduate training.
“We look forward to maintaining the programme and welcoming new junior doctors to NAViGO and the local NHS care system.”
GMC Approved Sponsorship Status recognises NAViGO as a designated body, a UK organisation that has an established higher training programme and clinical governance processes, including appraisal systems that support doctors with their revalidation and promote and protect the interests of patients.
