Role summary

  • To deliver hot meals in a company vehicle to the service user as per the order sheet
  • Be the face of Nurtrio's Meals on Wheels service when communicating with customers, ensuring they are kept informed and are able to offer feedback
  • Completing a welfare check where required to do so
  • Liaising with other services such as the ambulance service if necessary
  • To complete daily checks, including meal quality and temperature checks, to meet EHO standards
  • Follow instructions for specific delivery instructions to meet service user needs
  • Complete vehicle checks and cleaning routine before and after each shift
  • Report vehicle defects in a timely manner
  • Liaise with other drivers and kitchen staff to ensure all meals are delivered and respond to service issues as they arise
  • Record all deliveries as they have been completed
  • Be approachable 
  • Ad hoc duties as required by the co-ordinator
     

  • To provide support and relevant information in respect of the people we support to relevant partners following the relevant guidance and procedures
  • To be fully accessible during working hours to respond to the people we support needs
  • To conduct themselves in an appropriate manner when dealing with the people we support, Nurtrio staff and members, partner agencies and the public

  • To be aware of own training needs and bring these to the attention of the supervisor
  • To attend/complete all mandatory training including face-to-face, e-learning and distance learning
  • To develop a thorough knowledge of Nurtrio services available to the people we support and promote positive working relationships with them
  • To be aware of and adhere to Nurtrio/NAViGO policies and procedures
  • To participate in appropriate training courses and updates in accordance with mandatory requirements and/or individual personal development plans (PDRs)

Health and Safety

Under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 it is the responsibility of individual employees at every level to take care of their own health and safety at work and that of others who may be affected by their acts at work. This includes co-operating with management in complying with health and safety obligations, particularly by reporting promptly any defects, risks, or potential hazards

The post-holder must adhere to the Fire Policy and local evacuation guidelines, including training attendance.

Responsibility for Data Quality

All staff that record information have a responsibility to ensure that the data is relevant, accurate, complete, and captured in a timely manner so that it is fit for purpose. Staff must follow the agreed Nurtrio policies and procedures. A data subject (e.g. an employee or a service user) has a right to expect this under the Data Protection Act’s fourth principle: personal data shall be accurate and where necessary kept up to date

Respect Training

Nurtrio provides every member of staff with training appropriate to their work area in dealing, on occasion, with violent or aggressive behaviour. This training is designed to teach you de-escalation skills as a first intervention tool and physical techniques training to assist you in maintaining a safe environment if a situation arises. It is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure and maintain training compliance.

Infection Control

All staff members have a responsibility to themselves, service users, visitors, and other staff to maintain high standards of infection prevention and control and follow the agreed Nurtrio policies and procedures. It is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure and maintain ongoing training compliance.

Safeguarding

All staff members have a responsibility to themselves, service users and other staff in ensuring the effective safeguarding of children and adults. Staff must follow the agreed Nurtrio policies and procedures in both these domains. It is the responsibility of the post-holder to ensure and maintain training compliance.

Staff should ensure that their actions support the aim of the organisation in ensuring that all children up the age of 18 years are protected from significant harm, abuse, and neglect, in accordance with the multi-agency child protection procedures set out by the NEL Safeguarding Children Partnership and Nurtrio safeguarding policies.

Physical Effort

  • Following appropriate training the post holder will be required to transport and deliver hot meals to service users in their own homes, which may include climbing stairs. There is also a need to lift and carry the thermopots, which transport the meals, to the delivery van. The post holder must be physically fit.

  • The post holder will need to show empathy with service users
  • The post holder may be the subject of anger, hostility, and frustration from service users.

  • Occasional potential exposure to service users with challenging behaviours
  • The post is part of a rapidly changing health and social care environment, often governed by forces beyond its control i.e. Government policy, budget pressures etc

Working Conditions

  • The post holder is required to work within the Meals on Wheels delivery van and enter service users' homes and in all weather conditions.
  • Physically assist service users if required when delivering meals (serve up etc).
  • The post holder will be expected to enter service users homes which may include climbing stairs.
  • The post holder will be required to work alone using their own initiative.
  • The post holder will be required to work within the community on designated routes as appropriate.
  • There is a risk to personal safety as work is carried out in the community where the environment can be challenging, unpredictable and uncontrolled.
  • The post holder may at times be required to work with people who show challenging behaviour.

Confidentiality

  • In the course of your duties, you may have access to confidential material about service users, members of staff or other health service business. On no account must information relating to identifiable patients be divulged to anyone other than authorised persons, for example, medical, nursing, or other professional staff as appropriate. If you are in any doubt whatsoever as to the authority of a person or body asking for information of this nature, you must seek advice from the board.
  • Similarly, no information of a personal confidential nature concerning individual members of staff should be divulged to anyone without the proper authority having first been given. Failure to observe these rules will be regarded by your employers as serious gross misconduct, which could result in disciplinary action being taken against you. Individuals within Nurtrio Ltd are responsible for any records they create, use or handle.  This responsibility is established at, and defined, by law.
  • All employees working within Nurtrio who record, handle, store or otherwise come across information, have a personal common-law duty of confidence. The Data Protection Act 1988 now places statutory restrictions on the use of personal information, including health information. All staff need to acknowledge the importance of health records and their personal responsibilities.
  • Its security is of prime importance and serious consequences can result should a record go missing.  Any disclosure of such information without permission is a disciplinary offence and may result in dismissal.
  • The job description is a guide to the duties you will be expected to perform immediately on your appointment. It is not part of your contract of Employment and your duties may well be changed from time to time to meet changes in Nurtrio’s requirements in consultation with yourself.

Person Specification

ESSENTIAL

  • Full Clean Driving License

  • An interest in, and commitment to, ongoing personal/professional development

  • Respects and understands the need for confidentiality

  • Qualified driver with a minimum of one year of driving experience.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience of working with people requiring care and/or support

  • Food hygiene knowledge

  • Previous experience of working in a team
